We at the RCTC Riding School are proud of our six well behaved Manipuri ponies named Dynamo, Caramel, Biscuit, Junior, Pockets and Patches and six foals aged between six months to one and a half years named Sunrise, Midnight, Ginger, Friday’s Dawn, Sweet Surprise and Ice Cream.
We also have eleven thoroughbred horses, some very well behaved and a couple not so well behaved at times!!
We are open to the public who wish to become Members of our Riding School – the age being 6+ and above.
If you don't know how to ride, which is generally the case, then we teach you.
We function round the year and are open six days a week, though Members are entitled to ride thrice a week in the evenings.
We cannot ride on Calcutta Race Days during the Racing Season.
Our riding timings vary with the seasons. Thus in winter we ride earlier as the sun sets early - 3.30 to 4.30pm.
In summer we tend to ride later due to the intense heat.
Our Riding is done in Riding Enclosures inside the Race Course which is a vast open area of greenness with a view of the majestic Victoria Memorial on one side and part of the Vidya Sagar Setu on the other.
We have also been doing some jumping and hope to do it more seriously with our advanced riders as we now have some lovely new jumps on which to practise.
While riding is not for the faint-hearted, we have girls and boys aged 6+ to 8+ and older riders who have developed a great rapport with their horses and ponies and even learnt how to lead their mounts on foot and unsaddle them when they return from their ride.
Only proficient riders are allowed to ride in the mornings as we have 600+ extremely expensive Race Horses exercising and do not wish to risk any accident by coming in their way!!!
