Ruling - Treatment Of Horses
NOTICE
EPISTAXIS/ BLEEDER / EIPH
The below mentioned guidelines will be effective from 1st November, 2023.
- When a horse bleeds for the first time, the horse would be prohibited from racing for a period of 4 weeks.
- In case the horse bleeds second time, the horse would be prohibited from racing for a period of 8 weeks.
- In case the horse bleeds for the third time, it would be prohibited from racing for a period of 12 weeks.
- In case the horse bleeds during its first run, after the period of 12 weeks, it would be banned from racing.
- In case the horse is laid off from racing for a period of one year or more at any of the above mentioned stages and bleeds during the first run thereafter, it would be banned from racing.
- The period of one year for EIPH Ban calculation would start from the day of first bleeding.
- However, if a horse runs after a lay off from racing of a period of one year or more and does not bleed in its first run but does bleed in its subsequent run, it would then be treated as if it was a first time bleeder.
- A bleeder/EIPH which has been placed on ban at another racing centre will also be taken in account for counting the number of times the horse had bled.
- Horses that are under Ban are eligible to show the fast work in the last week of ban period to obtain fitness certificate.
- Horses found suffering from EIPH grade 3 and 4 on Endoscopy are also considered as Bleeders
