CALCUTTA RACES

MONSOON  MEETING, SEVENTH DAY, WEDNESDAY, 13TH AUGUST, 2008

 

1st RACE (41) THE SPRIGHTLY HANDICAP (About) 1800 Metres (1.20/1.20) : 7 runners

 

SILENT HUNTER (Amandeep Singh) reared up as the start was effected losing about three lengths.

 

VIGNET (App Sameer Khan) was observed to veer out in the final stages of the race  with the rider failing to exercise proper control over his mount and take corrective measures.  The app was advised in the presence of his Master Mr. Shafiq Khan to ensure that he maintains a straight course on his mounts in future failing which such action may be taken against him as deemed fit.

 

Tr. Rutherford Alford was questioned regarding the improved performance of his chage VIGNET as compared to its previous starts in Race Nos. 13 (The Dominate Handicap) and  25 (The Fair Mona Handicap) run on 16th July and 26th July, 2008 respectively where it finished off board.  The trainer stated that he was disappointed with the run of the gelding in its previous starts over 1200 and 1000 metres respectively, as such he gave his charge a gap of about two weeks and ran over 1800 metres and together with the change of equipment, it suited the gelding who went on to win, was noted.

 

The Sr. Veterinary Officer has been requested to examine EXCEL (D K Ashish) and submit his report.

 

2nd RACE (42) THE ROYAL MANTLE PLATE (About) 1400 Metres (1.50/1.51) : 7 runners

 

LIP GLOSS (Md. Islam) was very fractious in the stall thereby delaying the start of the race by a minute.  The filly was slow off losing about two lengths and ran detached from the field for the greater part of the race.  Tr. J J Stephens has been advised to ensure that his charge is capable of a better performance before next accepting with it.

 

ALAMGIR (Imran Khan) was slightly fractious in the stall.

 

EVER GRACEFUL (App Vikash Tamang) jumped out awkwardly, in the process the reins used on the filly snapped with the rider losing balance and being dislodged.  Subsequent examination of the equipment revealed that the same was in serviceable condition, as such no action, beyond noting the incident, was taken.

 

Jockey D K Ashish, the rider of GOLDEN CHAIN, was fined a sum of Rs. 1,000/- for coming in sharply at about the 900 metres, causing interference to ABSOLUTELY ROYAL (C Alford) running on his inside.

 

3rd RACE (43) THE OWN ABILITY CUP (About) 1400 Metres (2.25/2.25) : 6 runners

4th RACE (44) THE KINGCRAFT HANDICAP (About) 1800 Metres (3.00/3.19) : 7 runners

 

ROYAL DAZZLE (App J Gurung) was slow off losing about three lengths.

 

5th RACE (45) THE ORANGE WILLIAM CUP (About) 1400 Metres (3.35/3.56) : 7 runners

 

SOLID SUCCESS (Sameer Khan) played up and was reluctant to proceed to the start thereby delaying the start of the race.  Trainer Anupam Sharma has been advised to school his charge better before next accepting with it.

 

SOLID SUCCESS (Sameer Khan) was very fractious in the stall and reared up as the start was effected.

 

6th RACE (46) THE THRIFTY ALLAN HANDICAP (About) 1100 Metres (4.10/4.30) : 10 runners

 

ARTILLERY (J Chinoy) and TIME WARNER (Pawan Sharma) were slow off losing about a length each.

 

Jockey Asghar, the rider of ETERNAL SPIRIT, was severely reprimanded to make greater efforts to ride out his mounts in future.

 

Jockey Asghar, the rider of ETERNAL SPIRIT, reported loss of whip at about the 400 metres.

 

7th RACE (47) THE ESPOIR CUP (About) 1400 Metres (4.45/5.05) : 10 runners

 

App Pintu Das, the rider of ITALIAN STAR, reported sick at the start.  The apprentice was examined by the Medical Officer and declared unfit to ride, as such ITALIAN STAR was withdrawn with the permission of the Stewards before coming under Starter’s orders.

 

SOUTHERN BELLE (App Vikash Tamang) was difficult to load.

 

MIDDAY BLAZE (D K Ashish) and ROCK SUPERSTAR (V Jaiswal) were fractious in the stall.

 

BOUNTIFUL LIGHT (App Sk Israil), FERRAZZA (Pawan Sharma) and SOUTHERN BELLE (App Vikash Tamang) were slow off losing about two lengths each.

 

PAWAN SHARMA, the rider of FERRAZZA reported loss of whip whilst entering the final straight and added that the mare was hanging in, in the final stages of the race inspite of his best efforts,  was noted.

 

BOUNTIFUL LIGHT (App Sk Israil) trailed the field through out the race and AEROPOSTALE (K Kumar) trailed the field in the home straight.  Tr. R Corner has been advised not to accept with his charges till capable of a better performance.

 

G E N E R A L

 

1.         Random testing for the presence of alcohol in respect of Jockeys M Reuben, Neeraj Rawal, Imran Khan and Apprentice Sk. Israil  was carried out and found to be clear.

 

2.         Urine Samples.  The following horses were sampled :-

            a)         BIG THRILLZ                         -           6th Race.

            b)         SIMPLY PERFECT                 -           7th Race.

 

3.         Consequent to App Arman Khan being declared medically unfit to ride, Tr. E Bhungard was permitted to substitute App Vikash Tamang to ride his charges EVER GRACEFUL, TRADITIONAL STYLE and SOUTHERN BELLE in the 2nd, 6th and 7th races respectively.

 

4.         On the morning of Thursday, 14th August, 2008, the following horses were examined by the Sr. Veterinary Officer and reports submitted as under :-

 

            EXCEL                        -           Sound

            LIP GLOSS                  -           Sound

            GLENBERVIE             -           Lame on right hind.

 

            Tr. R Corner has been advised not to accept with his charge GLENBERVIE till certified fit by the Sr. Veterinary Officer.
